Bentota lies in the southeast coast of Srilanka, 65 kilometres south of Colombo and 55 kilometres North of Galle town. The town is one of the best known tourist destinations in Srilanka, popular for its star classed hotels providing accommodation and serving food to international standards while equally popular for watersports. The beaches in the area are clean and pristine, palm trees adorn the shorelines. Between November and April is the ideal time for visiting Bentota as the sea is calm and this greatly enhances the ability for snorkelling, diving, sailing, wind-surfing and water-skiing. Nearby attractions include the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery which is located 11 kilometres south of Bentota and is a turtle hatchery and turtle watching project which was set up by the Turtle Conservation Project working together with the Wildlife Department. Another well known attraction is the Brief Garden located inland from Bentota which is a house cum garden designed by the famed srilankan landscape architect Bevis Bawa.
